Email and text reminders for business rates
We’re now sending regular email and text reminders to people who have fallen behind with their payments.
To help residents stay on top of when their Business Rates payments are due, we’re now sending regular email and text reminders to people who have fallen behind with their payments before the more formal ‘reminder’ notices are sent.
The text messages will come from ‘BHCC’ and read ‘This is an important message from Brighton & Hove City Council regarding your Business Rates payments.’
It then asks you to follow a link beginning ‘https://sms.brighton-hove.gov.uk’ for further information. Following that link will take you to a page with a security question to check your identity before giving you further instructions on your Business Rates account.
The email will be titled ‘Important information regarding your Business Rates’ and will come from ‘email@example.com’ and will include instructions as to you what you need to do.
If you receive any of these messages, we can confirm they are legitimate Brighton & Hove City Council communications and ask you to act on the instructions detailed as soon as possible.
The reminders will be sent out most months and are currently scheduled for:
- Wednesday 10 November 2021
- Wednesday 9 February 2022
We trialed this system earlier this year with council tax payers and, following feedback, updated the sender information to make it clearer the texts and emails were from Brighton & Hove City Council.
