Wedding and Civil Partnership ceremonies

Latest information:

  • following the government announcement on 22 February we are experiencing a very high volume of enquiries. We will respond to you as soon as we can
  • until 29 March ceremonies can take place in exceptional circumstances only  - maximum 6 people
  • from 29 March ceremonies can take place with maximum 6 people
  • no earlier than 12 April ceremonies can take place with maximum 15 people Please check with your venue how many they can safely accommodate – the maximum of 10 people in the Regency Suite and 15 in the Council Chamber will apply
  • no earlier than 17 May ceremonies can take place with up to 30 people. please check with your venue how many they can safely accommodate – the maximum of 10 people in the Regency Suite and 24 in the Council Chamber will apply until further notice
  • no earlier than 21 June restrictions may be removed on weddings and other life events, subject to the outcome of the scientific Events Research Programme - please check with your venue how many they can safely accommodate – the maximum of 10 people in the Regency Suite and 24 in the Council Chamber will apply until further notice

The dates given by the government are earliest dates where some restrictions may be lifted and are not guaranteed. Permitted numbers will remain subject to COVID safety compliance and in many cases will be lower than the maximum allowed. We will regularly review safe capacity in Brighton Town Hall venues.

  • if your ceremony is at an approved venue please contact them for further information
  • if you already have a ceremony with us that has been affected by the lockdown you will be prioritised for re-booking from 29th March onwards
  • we are accepting new ceremony bookings from July onwards until we have accommodated all couples with prior bookings who have been affected

Notices of marriage or civil partnership

  • we are currently taking notices of marriage only for couples who have a ceremony booked within the next 3 months
  • if you are subject to immigration and need to give notice at a designated register office please follow government guidelines on unnecessary travel and contact your nearest designated office for an appointment
