How to request a copy of a death certificate, how much it costs, and how to get certificates from outside Brighton & Hove.
Who can request a certificate
Anyone can request a copy of a death certificate for a death in Brighton & Hove. You'll need to know the following information about the deceased:
- date of death
- place of death
- their full name, and any names previously known by
- occupation
- date of birth
- last known address
- if married or in a civil partnership, name of husband, wife or civil partner
Certificate costs

For our standard certificate service, we will issue your certificate within 15 working days, and send it to you by second class post.
If you need a certificate urgently, we offer a priority service with 24 hour delivery. You must make a priority application by midday for next day collection or first class postage.
