Purposes and lawful basis of processing
We are collecting your data for the purpose of responding to your request for advice for your business in relation to trading standards matters. Your information may be used for communication purposes to respond to your request, and may also include sending out updates to your business in the future to inform you of legislative changes.
It may be necessary to use information provided when exercising our powers as a trading standards authority.
Our lawful basis for processing data is for the performance of a task carried out in the exercise of official authority vested in the council, specifically working within the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Who we will share your data with
Your data may be shared internally with potentially any team within the council. We may also share information externally with other local authorities, government organisations and departments, Police and other market surveillance authorities.
How long we will hold your data (retention)
We will hold your data for six years from when the last contact was made.
Transferring data outside the European Economic Area
Your information is not processed outside the European Economic Area.

Under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have certain rights concerning your information.
We aim to resolve all complaints about how we handle personal information. You also have the right to make a complaint about data protection to the Information Commissioner's Office.
