Failure to look properly – by drivers and vulnerable road users  – is a key factor in collisions across the city.

As travel restrictions are lifted and people are encouraged to return to active travel, it is likely casualties of vulnerable road users will increase. That's why we developed the Mind in Gear campaign.

How the Mind in Gear campaign was developed

The council have developed this campaign with the Sussex Mindfulness Centre, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Trust.

Dr Robert Marx and Paula Bellers provided the expertise on creating a simple mindfulness technique, framing it to be effective for the initial target audience of young male drivers.

The project was funded by the Access Active Travel fund.

The film was entered into the 2022 UN Road Safety film awards in the Smart and Safe Mobility section and won first prize.
