Local Development Framework (LDF)
Brighton & Hove LDF: latest information
- The city council's Core Strategy Revised Preferred Options Document is available to download from this site. The public consultation period ran from Friday 27 June to Friday 8 August 2008.
- The Local Development Scheme (LDS), the 3 year work programme for the LDF was revised in July 2008. This is an interim scheme and has not been formally approved by the Government Office for the South East. This is due to the announcment in July 2008 that Shoreham Harbour has been given Growth Point status by the Government, resulting in the need for further background research and a potential adjustment to LDS timetables. For further information on Growth Points, please refer to: http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/housing/partnershipsforgrowth.
What is the LDF?
The Local Development Framework or 'LDF' is the term used to describe the set of documents which will eventually include all of the planning authority's local development documents, one of which will be the Core Strategy. As these new documents are adopted by the council, they will eventually replace the Brighton & Hove Local Plan adopted in 2005.
LDFs, which were introduced by the Government in 2004, are intended to deliver sustainable development whilst reflecting the needs of local communities. They aim to deliver 'spatial planning', that is they must take into account social and environmental factors such as health and housing need and should not be purely focussed on the regulation and control of land.
The main types of Local Development Documents are:
- Development Plan Documents (DPDs)
- Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
- Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)
Other LDF documents are:
