Waste Local Plan

Schedule of Representations on the Councils' response to the Waste Local Plan Inspectors Report

'Standard’ objections are objections received which were found to relate to the same matters. Over 7,000 individuals and organisations submitted ‘standard’ objections.

A total of ten different ‘standard’ objections were identified.

In summarising the standard objections abbreviations have been used. 

There are consistent issues that arise from these letters which cover:

• Recycling & composting targets
• No strategic facility in the east of the County
• Best Practicable Environmental Option (A process which aims to establish for a given set of objectives, the option that provides the most benefits and the least damage to the environment, as a whole, at acceptable levels of cost)
• Proximity Principle & Transport (Issues surrounding the principle that waste should be disposed of as closely as possible to the source of its production.)
• Precautionary Principle (The principle that if the results of activites are particularly uncertain then decisions that could potentially lead to harm should be postponed or avoided.)
• Lack of Environmental Appraisal/SEA/SA (Strategic Environmental Assessment is a tool for assessing the broader environmental impact of policies, plans and programmes in a methodical way. Sustainability Assessment is similar, but includes social and economic impacts.)
• Waste Hierarchy (A dominant concept in waste management policy, with reduction (of waste) being the preferred option, followed by reuse, recovery and finally disposal)
• Alternative Sites and technologies
• Incineration
• Background papers
• More ‘environmentally friendly’ ways of dealing with waste
• General Objections to all modifications and rejections of the Inspectors recommendations
