Family CAF (Common Assessment Framework)
What is it?
A way for children, young people and their families to get the help they need. By listening and working with families, the Family CAF will allow workers in children and adult services to work together to support the family.
How does it work?
The Family CAF has three parts to it: assessment, plan and review.
To help workers identify the levels of difficulty and common triggers for beginning a Family CAF, a Supporting Families [PDF 375kb] booklet has been produced.
Information for children, young people and families

Support for workers starting a Family CAF
The Family CAF Team is able to offer support [word 41kb] and training [word 31kb] for workers in children and adult services from across Brighton & Hove (within the statutory and voluntary sector).
When doing a Family CAF, sometimes workers need a little extra support for different reasons. The Family CAF Mentors can offer that support. If you would like to speak to someone about Family CAF mentoring then please contact Mat Thomas on (01273) 290474 or email mat.thomas@brighton-hove.gov.uk
The Directory of Interventions [word 1.35mb] is a way for practitioners to find out about services in the city and when and how to refer.
The Family Information Service (FIS) have an online directory of services that you can use to look up a wide range of services that support children and families in the city. The FIS advisers have a wide ranging knowledge of local services and are happy to help if you call them on (01273) 293545 or email familyinfo@brighton-hove.gov.uk
