Pride campsite
Lost property at the campsite - please email us with details of anything you may have left or lost anything.
Cityparks is once again temporarily opening up part of Waterhall sports field to allow basic camping for the influx of visitors to Pride. We do this because the week is the busiest of the year in the city.
Waterhall has basic shower and changing facilities in the sports pavilion, with merchandise, portaloos and a bus service to the city centre via Preston Park provided for the weekend. Catering will include a burger bar, Thai food, crepes, coffee, shakes and icecream.
The campsite is open from Thursday 5th August until the morning of Monday 9th August 2010. Booking is not required, but campers are advised to arrive before dark on the Friday to guarantee a space. The pavilion facilities open 6am to midnight on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday (8am to 10pm on the Thursday and 8am to 12 noon on the Monday). The portaloos, including wheelchair accessible units, are available at all times.
In order to make the campsite more enjoyable and to prevent damage to the area or disturbance to residents visitors are requested to:
- pitch tents only in designated areas
- use the skips for rubbish and recycle where possible
- use buses and taxis, rather than cars, especially if it rains
- not leave valuables in tents or vehicles as the council will not be held responsible for loss, theft or damage
- light no fires (except camping stoves)
- beware of adders in the longer grass beyond the campsite!
- respect nearby residents by keeping quiet late at night
- remove tents by noon on the Monday
- not camp in other parks and green spaces.
Park rangers are available during the day to deal with any queries and there will be overnight security as well as a Police presence. Basic first aid facilities available on site.
The charge on arrival is to cover some of the costs of running the campsite: £80 per car from the Thursday for the weekend; Friday £60/car; Saturday £40/car; Sunday £20/car. A ticket is issued for placing on car dashboards to enable cars to come and go during the weekend. Brighton & Hove City Council encourages people to travel by more sustainable means of transport such as train and bus and on presentation of a valid train or bus ticket from outside of the city people are permitted to camp for free. However there is no parking available on the roads around the site and anyone found to be parking in residential streets will be requested to leave. People arriving on foot or by taxi with no proof of train/bus ticket will be asked to pay as if they have arrived by car, including people dropped off by private car. Please note people who have clearly not travelled to Brighton by public transport will be asked to pay or requested to leave. All proceeds go towards covering the costs of the council running the campsite and profits, if any, go to the conservation of nearby nature reserves.
Parking is adjacent to the camping area on grass sports pitches. Cars and tents only - no vans, camper vans, caravans or motor homes. A designated area of hard standing is reserved for blue badge holders to park cars immediately adjacent to the central camping area. Sorry no dogs.
