Description:

Online application at the bottom of this page

If you wish to apply for an allotment please fill in the boxes below and then press the submit button. Boxes marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled in.

Please note: only one allotment application per city resident is allowed.

We will put you on the waiting list for the one site you choose and contact you when a plot becomes available. We may also offer plot (s) when they become available on nearby sites. But you can choose to wait for your site of choice. We regularly search for multiple applicants and remove applications from all but one list.

Please notify us of any change of address so we can contact you. If you are sent a tenancy agreement for an allotment plot and you do not respond within one month your name will be removed from the waiting list. We will also remove your name if you do not respond to correspondence sent to ensure you want to remain on the waiting list.

Your name and contact details will be passed on to Brighton & Hove Allotment Federation to enable them to contact you in the future.

Information for applicants before joining a waiting list

  • There is a maximum of one allotment application per Brighton & Hove resident.
  • There is a maximum of two allotment applications per household where applications are in two different names.
  • Any individual found to be on more than one waiting list will be automatically removed from all but the most favourable waiting list.
  • Existing tenants will not be allowed on any waiting list (an exception is made for tenants applying for limited mobility plots). Any tenants found to be on a waiting list while having allotment provision will be removed from that list automatically by the council.
  • To avoid disappointment please apply for only one allotment waiting list.

Information for applicants after joining a waiting list

  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to keep Cityparks informed of up to date contact details.
  • Waiting list applicants who cannot be contacted by email or by telephone due to incorrect contact details will be removed from the waiting list.
  • If an applicant does not respond to invitations to view plots over a three month period they will be removed from the waiting list.
  • If an applicant views and rejects two available plots they will be removed from the waiting list.
  • In the event that a plot holder is having personal difficulties or health problems, and cannot maintain their plot in accordance with the rules, the council will consider terminating the plot holder’s tenancy and positioning that person at a mid-point in the waiting list.

Waiting list position and waiting times

The allotments service is unfortunately unable to inform applicants of how long they can expect to remain on a waiting list before they are offered a plot.

Allotments usually only become available as a result of a tenant giving up a plot, or if a tenancy has been terminated due to the tenant breaking the rules. We try to assist struggling tenants to keep their plots but we do terminate tenancies if improvements are not made.

As a result it is not possible to accurately predict how many plots may become vacant during any given period. The current average waiting time is three to four years, although for smaller sites this can be much longer.

We ask you to be patient whilst waiting for a plot to become available, Once you reach the top of the waiting list you will be contacted either by the council or by the relevant site representative.
