Homeless training scheme wins cash

A new business training homeless people in catering has won £20,000 of government funding. Brighton Housing Trust is putting the money into ‘Dine!’, a commercial catering service based at their First Base Day Centre.

Trainees will have a link to getting local jobs through the city’s Hospitality Futures scheme which is opening up employment opportunities in the tourism sector. The council and the Trust recently secured almost £1 million of government funding for work at First Base including a new kitchen and catering training facilities.

Council leader Mary Mears said: “This is the first social enterprise in the city for homeless people, so it will be exciting to see it grow and develop into a thriving business.”
