Foredown Tower re-opens
Foredown Tower Countryside Centre in Portslade has re-opened for the 2008 season.
Visitors can enjoy fantastic 360 degree views of the Sussex countryside through the camera obscura – one of only two operational in south east England. The camera obscura is an unusual optical device used to observe the landscape, sun and sky. Demonstrations take place on the hour every hour from 11am to 4pm.
The former water tower also offers expertise in astronomy and wildlife and is a popular starting point for walks on the Downs.
Foredown Tower is situated in Foredown Road on the edge of the Downs and is open weekends and Bank Holidays, from 10am-5pm. During August it will be open on Thursdays and Fridays as well.
To mark the spring equinox, on Sunday 23 March, there will be a rare opportunity to look directly at the sun through a special hydrogen/alpha telescope. Foredown’s astronomy group will also give an illustrated talk at 2pm.
