How art can protect eyesore buildings

prints of paintings such as 'Brighton Front' by CH Burleigh, are protecting eyesore buildings like the Astoria

Giant copies of paintings from the city’s museums are adding a splash of colour to buildings like the Astoria building in Gloucester Place.

It’s part of an imaginative scheme – the first of its kind in the country – to prevent empty properties becoming targets for vandalism and graffiti. Instead of seeing boarded up windows and peeling paintwork, passers-by can enjoy pictures such as ‘Brighton Front’ by CH Burleigh in 1920, which is also on display (pictured) at a shop in New Road.

An empty pub in Sussex Street has also been given the artistic treatment – there pictures of blue sky and clouds are being used to brighten up the building.
