International sports festival starts in July

Brighton & Hove’s first ever International Festival of Sport kicks off in July – and carries on all the way up to the 2012 Olympics.

The 'Take Part' festival aims to be the biggest of its kind in the UK.

Its centrepiece will be two weeks of events from 28 June to 13 July, including competitions, taster sessions, and a big opening event in Preston Park.

But it’s a lot more than a two-week extravaganza.

Take Part will continue over the next five years up to the 2012 Olympics, encouraging thousands more people from across the city to take part not just in sport, but all types of physical activity.

It will also help local clubs, businesses and community groups to get involved.

The festival is being organised by Dorothy Stringer Sports College, the council and the local NHS. High profile backers include the Albion, Sussex County Cricket Club, Nivea Sun Yellowave and City College.

To get involved call Emma Greenough at Dorothy Stringer on (01273) 852280, or email emma.greenough@dorothy-stringer.co.uk.

There's much more to getting active than joining a gym. See here for more about the hundreds of different activities on offer around the city.
