Red zone spells safety for cyclists
The city council has installed ‘cycle advanced stop lines’ at 28 city road junctions.
Cycle advanced stop lines (ASLs) make it safer for cyclists by providing a safe space in front of queuing traffic.
With the addition of red road surfacing, this reinforces the presence of cyclists to motorists. When traffic lights are red, cyclists have a space to wait, with motorists behind them.
The ASLs are part of the Brighton & Hove Cycling Town project.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, Chair of Environment Committee said: "ASLs send a powerful message to motorists that this city welcomes and encourages cycling as an everyday activity".
