Park Art Schools Resource CDRom

Background to the project

The 'Fingermaze' project and the schools resource pack is part of Eco Brighton, an environmental art initiative that forms one aspect of the 'making a difference' cultural programme. The work was funded by the Urban Cultural Fund and Mountgrange (Hove) Ltd through the '% for art' scheme.

Designed by internationally renowned artist Chris Drury, 'Fingermaze' incorporates the design of a labyrinth into the patterns and whorls found in our fingerprints. The artwork is made from stone and lime mortar, chosen because its production uses less energy than cement and has a smaller carbon footprint.

The Park Art Schools Resource

The teachers' resource pack gives an insight into the development of the 'Fingermaze' project. It provides information about the origins and variety of environmental/ecological art and offers a fun and unusual way for pupils to engage with environmental issues.

The resource pack is targeted at key stages 2 and 3 and is packed with suggestions on how schools can make the most of the Fingermaze as a starting point for environmental investigation and art - this could range from developing stories around fingerprints to creating eco-art for their own school grounds.
