Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN)
Fixed Penalty Notices can be issued to parents or guardians for:
- truancy from school (including pupils found during truancy patrols)
- parent condoned absence
- excessive unauthorised absence from school
- unauthorised holidays in term time
- persistant late arrival at school (after Registration has closed)
- fail to attend or make contact to rearrange an Attendance Support Meeting (ASM) at the school
Warning letters
Warning letters will be issued to parents/guardians in advance of an FPN in all circumstances exept for unauthorised term time holidays.
Fines
A fine of £50 per child is issued to each parent/guardian if paid within 28 days, thereafter rising to £100 to each parent if paid within 42 days of issue.
There is no right to appeal. Fines will only be withdrawn if they are found to have been issued in error.
Unpaid fines
If the fine is not paid, the Authority will commence proceedings in the Magistrates Court for the original offence of failing to ensure their child's attendance at school. If convicted parents/guardians may face a fine of up to £1,000
