Carers Strategy Summary 2010-2012

Following the consultation with carers last summer, the Brighton & Hove Multi-Agency Commissioning and Development Strategy for Carers 2010 - 2012 has been agreed.

Carers Direct

As part of the National Strategy for Carers, a Carers Direct telephone helpline is now available.

This free telephone advice line is open seven days a week and provides a comprehensive advice service for carers wanting information about benefits, how to get care and support, breaks, housing and more. For further information go to Carers Direct.

Carers website (Department of Health)

There is now a central government website for carers dedicated to providing information and services. This is a very useful site and we strongly recommend it.

Brighton & Hove Carers' Survey 2009 - summary of responses

Introduction

The Carers’ Centre for Brighton & Hove was commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council to carry out the survey. It was sent out to approximately 1,800 individual carers of adults in June 2009 during National Carers’ Week.

Aims of the survey

To find out the changing and unmet needs of carers of adults in the city
To implement the 2008 National Carers Strategy on a local level
To improve services for carers of adults
To influence future resource allocations for carers of adults in Brighton & Hove

The Carers Strategy Working Group will consider the findings in the summary [PDF 64kb] and will take forward any actions arising from these.
