What is Sustainability Appraisal?

The council must carry out Sustainability Appraisals (incorporating strategic Environmental Assessment requirements) for each  Development  Plan Document and some Supplementary Planning Documents.

The aim of Sustainability Appraisal is to ensure the social, environmental and economic affects of policies are assessed as part of the plan preparation process.

All Sustainability Appraisal reports will include the methodology used and are open to public consultation at stages during their preparation.
