Our Electoral Services team administer all elections and referendums held locally, including elections for

Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner
Elections for Police and Crime Commissioners took place across England (except London) and Wales on 15 November 2012. Brighton & Hove is part of the election of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner.

A by-election can be held at any time when a casual vacancy occurs. This happens on the resignation or death of a currently serving councillor or MP.
East Brighton by-election - Thursday 18 October 2012
Following the election held to fill the vacancy of councillor in the East Brighton ward of Brighton & Hove City Council, Chaun Wilson of the Labour and Co-operative party has been elected councillor.

Elections for Brighton & Hove City Council and Rottingdean Parish Council are generally held on the first Thursday in May every four years. Full elections were held on 5 May 2011 and results are being announced on Friday 6 May.
Older People's Council Elections
The most recent elections were held by postal ballot in two Zones, Zone 2 and Zone 8. Postal votes were issued on Thursday 16 June and the poll closed on Thursday 30 June 2011. The votes were counted on 1 July 2011 and the results have now been declared. For more details, see the Notice of Election.
The results are as follows
- Zone 2 - East Brighton and Queens Park wards
Marina Murphy, 297 votes
Peter Terry, 799 votes - elected
- Zone 8 - North Portslade, South Portslade and Wish wards
Ronald Graham Gurney, 186 votes
John Gisbert Kapp, 169 votes
Harold Dunaway Steer, 1194 votes - elected

Elections for the Older People's Council were previously held on the 28 June 2007 and the 28 February 2008.

MPs are voted into the House of Commons at a parliamentary general election. These elections have to take place within five years of the last election but can be called at any time by the Prime Minister. The last General Election was held on 16 May 2010 and the results can be found in the parliamentary pages of our election results section.
European Parliamentary Elections
European Parliamentary elections are held every five years and usually on the second Thursday in June, although the exact date is determined by the European Parliament nearer the time. The last elections were held in June 2009 and the results can be seen in the Eurpean pages of our election results section.
