South East Plan

The South East Plan is the name given to the regional spatial strategy for the South East region. It was published in May 2009 and replaces the East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Structure Plan and previous planning guidance issued by Government, called Regional Planning Guidance 9 (RPG9). The City Council will need to reflect the overall strategy of the South East Plan in its own planning policy documents known as the Local Development Framework.

Key topics covered in the South East Plan are housing, transport, employment and the environment. For more information about how the South East Plan was developed see the South East England Partnership Board website (formerly the South East England Regional Assembly or SEERA).

All nine regions in England are producing similar documents for their areas. Once approved by Government, they will become statutory documents that local authorities and other agencies will have to follow.
