Recession Relief Package for Businesses

Brighton & Hove City Council is offering a range of additional services to assist local businesses survive the current economic downturn.This web page highlights the different aspects of the recession relief package and how businesses can access the support available.

 

Business Lifebelt (Now ended, new range of support services available in May 2010)

Business Lifebelt offered practical help and solutions to a range of businesses and sectors in the city. Brighton & Hove City Council worked with the local Chamber of Commerce and Business Link to deliver the events, workshops and one-to-one advice sessions which assisted over 1,400 businesses.

Business Lifebelt finished in November 2009, but to find out more about the Business Lifebelt programme and how it assisted business please contact the Economic Development Team on (01273) 290011.

Be Local, Buy Local Campaign

The Buy Local campaign is aimed at encouraging  residents to support their local retail sector, and the website offers plenty of support for businesses who wish to get involved in the campaign and benefit from free promotion.

Business Rates Assistance

Small businesses now have the opportunity to pay business rates in 12 annual instalments, on a case-by-case basis, as opposed to 10. Council officers have also been visiting businesses to promote a greater take-up of small business rate relief, helping one local hairdresser claim over £5,000.

Fast invoice payments for SMEs

Our council's finance department has committed to paying small businesses for goods and services within 10 days of receiving their invoice

More flexible payment terms for commercial tenants

Small businesses that lease council-owned property are now being offered monthly rent payments, as opposed to quarterly, on a case-by-case basis.
