What the council is doing

Working with the City Sustainability Partnership to develop a One Planet framework for the city.

Supporting Brighton & Hove Strategic Partnership's updated Climate Change Strategy for the city.

Reducing and monitoring our emissions through our carbon management programme.

Developing and using environmental management systems and standards for council events and activities.

Supporting local businesses to use resources efficiently by providing training, seminars and advice.

Developing the application for Brighton & Hove to achieve UNESCO biosphere reserve status.

Requiring the sustainability checklist is included on all planning applications for housing in the city; it covers everything from the efficient use of energy to sustainable building materials. 

Published a State of the Local Environment report, documenting the challenges that face us in improving our local and global environment.
