City College Brighton & Hove

The City College Brighton & Hove offers the three courses:

1. City and Guilds 7407 - Stage One

A stage one qualification provides a practical introduction to the knowledge, skills and awareness needed to teach in the post-16 learning and skills sector. The course provides a foundation into the planning and delivery of teaching sessions and enables you to get started on your teaching career.

It is taught on a part-time basis and requires you to study for approximately 50 hours, including a further 20 hours teaching practice. Typically, the course will take around 15 weeks to complete.

2. City and Guilds 7407 - Stage Two

A stage two qualification enables you to teach as a part-time lecturer at a further education college. The qualification is normally taught as a series of modules including: analysing the needs of learners, programme design, creating the climate, assessment and accreditation and evaluation.

The course is taught on a part-time basis and involves around 90 hours study combined with a further 40 hours teaching practice, typically taking around 24 weeks to complete. Access to the Stage 2 programme is usually via the Stage 1 programme.

3. Certificate in Education / PGCE in Post Compulsory Education

This course is validated by the University of Brighton but delivered by City College Brighton & Hove. Students complete Stages 1 and 2 of the 7407 as year one of the programme. Year 2 focuses on professional development and issues in education.

The course is delivered on a modular basis and may include: learning skills of observation, reflection, analysis and evaluation, managing the learning process, maintaining quality, supporting, developing and motivating learners and continuing professional development.

The course is taught on a part-time basis and involves around 140 hours study combined with a further 60 hours teaching practice.
