Virtual School for Children in Care (CiC)
Sometimes children and young people cannot be looked after by their parents or relatives.When this happens the local authority steps in to act as parents and the child becomes "looked after".

Our aim is to help children in care to do well in life
Some of the things we do are:
- collecting information on what happens to children in care at school
- giving advice to professionals who work with children in care
- listening to children and young people in care and celebrating their successes
- working with social workers and teachers to encourage success at school
Some of the ways we work are:
- we have a group of home tutors who support children in their foster families. They work one-to-one, mainly with Year 10 and 11 pupils.
- we run summer "catch-up" lessons for Year 6 children who are moving up to secondary school. We focus on reading and writing, number work and computer skills. We try to help the children feel confident about going to secondary school.
Ways of measuring how successful the Virtual School is include:
- monitoring how many qualifications children in care achieve
- monitoring attendance at school
- providing each child in care with a Personal Education Plan (PEP). A PEP looks at what's going well at school and what isn't going so well and sets targets for the future. This plan is reviewed every six months.
