service description
The mayor's primary duty is to act as the Chair of full Council meetings. This means ensuring that the proceedings are conducted properly and that all shades of opinion are given a hearing, as far as possible.

How is the mayor elected?
The mayor is elected by council members (councillors) at their annual meeting in May. The position is held for one year.
Who is the present Mayor and Deputy Mayor?
The current Mayor of Brighton & Hove is Councillor Bill Randall. He was elected by the other councillors at the Annual Council Meeting on 17 May 2012. His term of office is for one year until the next Annual Council Meeting in May 2013
The deputy mayor for the same period is Councillor Anne Meadows.
How do I address the mayor?
The correct form of address is "The right worshipful the Mayor of Brighton & Hove City Council, Councillor Bill Randall."
After formal introductions, the mayor may be addressed as Mister Mayor.
