frequently asked questions

How should I report a problem with the roads?

You can report the problem by filling in an online form or by ringing us on (01273) 292929. We need a precise location and a description of the nature of the problem, eg pothole.

This will then be inspected by one of our officers who will arrange for the council's highway contractor to carry out the repairs if necessary.

Can I get the footway lowered for vehicle access to my property?

You need to apply for a licence to construct a cross-over. Provided that you meet the criteria and safety standards, a licence will be issued with certain conditions attached. You will also need to check for underground equipment belonging to the utility companies and negotiate with them if it needs to be moved or protected. If you are thinking of applying, please read the vehicle crossover leaflet [PDF 43kb] carefully first - this contains information about the key points that need to be met.

If you require further information or want a crossover application pack to be posted to you, please telephone the council on (01273) 292929. You can also download the vehicle crossover application forms.
