Get Involved on Democracy Day!
John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, will visit the city on Thursday 23 September 2010 as part of Democracy Day. Hear what life is really like in Parliament, what goes on behind the scenes and the best way to influence decision-making. As part of the day, funded by Take Part and organised in partnership by the council and local voluntary organisations, Mr Bercow will visit Coldean library while members of his team will visit Hangleton library.
At midday he will kick off an afternoon of activities in Jubilee Square. These will include opportunities for people to take part in debates, learn the best way to get your views on local issues heard, and start a petition. There will be information on volunteering and adult learning, entertainment from local groups and lots more.

Get Involved campaign
The aim of the Get Involved campaign is to make local people aware of the many ways they can get involved in their community. This could be in various ways, for instance through taking part in local decision making, by voting or having your say in consultations.
The campaign is about helping to promote and celebrate what is already happening in communities and neighbourhoods across the city. A website has been developed to include a calendar of events and activities being held over the next nine months.
Get Involved activities
Are you part of an existing voluntary or community group? Do you have a good idea for an event or activity that will bring people together and get people involved? If so, you might be eligible for a council grant to help. Visit www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/communitygrants
Partners to the campaign
The Get Involved campaign is held in partnership with Sussex Police, NHS Brighton & Hove, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and other local community and voluntary sector organisations.
