Public Service Awards winners named

The winners of the Public Service Awards were announced last night at an impressive ceremony at The Grand in Brighton.

The winners of the ten categories spanned a number of public and voluntary sector organisations and disciplines.

Winner of Public Servant of the Year, which was nominated and voted for by residents, was awarded jointly to Osei Frimpong, a street cleaner in Patcham, and Jim & Rose Emery, foster carers in the city.

Brighton & Hove Federation of Disabled People won the Best Public Service of the Year - also nominated and voted for by residents.

The ceremony was hosted by Sally Gunnell OBE and attended by over three hundred local residents and businesses.

At the end of the evening, Councillor Mary Mears, Leader of the Council said:

“It has been a truly memorable evening recognising the work of people who go the extra mile.  This evening showed the strength and depth of our public and voluntary sector organisations and how yet again it is the hard work and dedication of our residents that make this city special.  Well done to all the winners.

“Being the first cross-sector awards in the city, we were keen to ensure that the evening was a success and will now eagerly start planning next year’s.”

The awards were sponsored by a number of local businesses:  Juice 107.2, Lagoon Watersports, ZT Group, The Grand, Nixon McInnes, Image1, Lucky Voice, Carlisle Managed Solutions and Bikram Yogo Brighton.
