Brighton & Hove registration service can help you with:

We can also issue birth, death and marriage certificates from current and old registers. 
Carrying out the legal preliminaries to marriage, civil partnerships and conducting civil marriage ceremonies at the Register Office and other licensed premises.

Certificate Fees

Certificates issued from a current register (still in the Registrar's custody), are all priced at £3.50

Certificates required urgently from an old register (in the Superintendent Registrar's custody) can now be obtained by using our same day Priority Service .
This service is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 9.30am-11.30am and 2pm-3.30pm and Wednesday 10am-11.30am and 2pm-3.30pm.

Please note we cannot offer Priority service to applications that do not meet required criteria. Birth and death certificate applications must state the date of the event, the place of the event and the full name as recorded in the register. Applications for marriage certificates must state date of the marriage, place of the marriage and the full names of both parties.

Non urgent certificates can be obtained using our Standard 5 working day service.

 


Getting Married or registering a Civil Partnership

To enter notice of marriage by certificate or civil partnership (15 days notice required) the fees are £30 each .

Please note both parties are required to attend the office to give notice. The notice is valid for 12 months fom the date of giving. A minimum residential qualification is required, please contact the Superintendent Registrar for further information and to book an appointment on (01273) 292016.

Fees for marriage ceremonies and civil partnerships

We have two main ceremony rooms at Brighton Town Hall. The Register Office has a capacity of 8 and The Regency Room has a capacity of 50. We also run Hove Ceremony Room which used to be Hove Register Office, that has a capacity of 50.

Ceremonies may be held in The Register Office Monday-Friday and on Saturday morning, up to 11.15a.m. for a fee of £43.50 to include a certificate.

Co-habiting rights

Many couples believe that legal rights are obtained by simply co-habiting as 'common law husband/wife' however this is not the case. For further information please visit the Married or not website.
