Older People's Services
Help for people over 65 years old
Our aim is to help and support older people who wish to remain living in their home for as long as they feel able to stay or, if this is no longer possible, to assist them in moving to residential or nursing home care.

Services provided
We may be able to help older people who:- have problems coping alone at home
- live alone or with family, partners or relatives
- have been ill or in hospital
- are confused or have mental health needs
- have problems with mobility, sight or hearing
Services will also support carers - relatives, friends or neighbours who are involved in caring for an older person.
If you are looking for a Personal Assistant (PA), the Support with Confidence scheme or the PA Noticeboard may be able to help you.

Extra Care Housing
Within Brighton & Hove, there is an emerging recognition of the important role that extra care housing has in meeting the needs of older people in the community and we are currently seeking views on our extra care housing strategy.

Older People's Council
The Older People’s Council is an independent group supported by Brighton & Hove City Council. The group is elected by older people across the city. The group works to ensure that all older people in Brighton & Hove are treated with respect and dignity and have access to services, support and opportunity to lead a fulfilling life.

Any resident over the age of 60 is able to stand as a candidate for the Older People’s Council. Members discuss issues of importance to older people at regular meetings held at least once a month. Councillors from Brighton & Hove City Council will also attend meetings to discuss relevant services or policies.
The government wants to create an Office for Disability Issues - a new body to co-ordinate disabled people's interests. The government also wants to set up a National Forum for Organisations of Disabled People. To find out more and visit www.direct.gov.uk/disability.
