Heritage
The Heritage team focuses on the conservation of all heritage assets and the historic environment generally. It is responsible for maintaining the statutory list of listed buildings and for the designation of locally listed buildings. In consultation with community groups and the council's Conservation Advisory Group, the team prepares studies and enhancement plans for the city's 34 conservation areas including the making of Article 4 Directions and controls on Estate Agent boards where appropriate.
Conservation advice is given on applications for works to listed buildings and on significant works to historic buildings within conservation areas and registered parks and gardens. Advice can also be given on traditional methods of historic building repair. The Heritage team maintains a register of Buildings at Risk and pro-actively takes action where appropriate to secure the carrying out of necessary repair works and ensures that the Brunswick Estate repainting requirements are complied with. The team also monitors archaeological issues.
The Conservation Strategy sets out the Heritage team’s responsibilities and work programme in greater detail. The News and Consultations page provides details on new or updated documents, designations and controls.
