Civil Funerals

Civil funerals offer bereaved families an alternative to a wholly religious or humanist ceremony. A civil funeral is an end of life ceremony, which is driven by the wishes, beliefs and values of the person and their family, not by the belief or ideology of the person conducting the funeral.

How is a civil funeral created?

A funeral celebrant will contact you to arrange a home visit to discuss your wishes and guide you in the preparation of your final goodbye. This will include:

  • A personal tribute, checked and agreed by a member of the family
  • Music
  • Readings or poetry
  • A hymn or prayer, if requested
  • On the day of the funeral, we will liaise with the funeral director and lead you through the service
  • A full copy of the text can be sent to the family after the ceremony, if you wish

Where can a civil funeral be held?

A civil funeral can take place at the crematorium, or the graveside, at home or in a place of your choice. We know every family is different and not everyone wants the same type of funeral. This is your opportunity to create, with the help and support of a professional celebrant, the most appropriate and meaningful ceremony for this final act of love and respect.

Your guarantee

All our celebrants are trained and accredited members of the Institute of Civil Funerals, which is a professional organisation that continually supports and monitors standards of excellence.
