Cycling
Brighton & Hove have been selected as a national exemplar Cycling Demonstration Town 2005 - 2008. The council are dedicated to promoting healthy and environmentally friendly travel like cycling. Cycle lanes are provided across the city, including along the seafront, Victoria Gardens and Lewes Road and there are many bike parking facilities sited conveniently throughout the city.
Cycle freeways
Work is progressing well on the new north south cycle freeway which when completed will provide a link between the Downs, from the Dyke Railway Trail to the seafront via Hove station. The southern segregated, motor-vehicle free, European-style cycle freeway section will soon be complete along Grand Avenue, with the whole route due for completion in early summer.
Connect2 is a winner!!!! Thank you to all those that voted for this project, which includes providing a vital new link in the form of a new crossing at Shoreham harbour which will connect Brighton's seafront cycle route with West Sussex.
**New** regular cycle rides
New monthly bike rides run on the last Sunday of the month meeting at the Peace Statue on Hove seafront at 11 am. They an easy, sociable rides lead by an experienced cyclist and usually last between two and three hours. Last months outing ended up at Carat's Cafe in Shoreham for well deserved refreshments.
