Counting traffic in Brighton and Hove

We record the amount of traffic at key points around the city.

We use sensors built into the road, that are triggered when a vehicle passes by. There are different counters for motor vehicles (such as cars, lorries and motorcycles) and cycles.

Our traffic counters do not contain cameras and cannot record any information that could identify the vehicle (such as license plate or colour). They are only used to monitor the patterns of traffic in various parts of the city.

Traffic counter data

For each counter, you can download a summary document (.doc) for recent years and an Excel sheet (.xls) containing all monthly historic data.

Download our information sheet about the data (MS Word 29KB)
