Why was the Fiveways parking scheme expanded into the Balfour Road area?

Zone F was extended to the streets around Balfour Road in response to complaints about the high number of vehicles parked in the area all day. This was making parking difficult for residents.

Councillors received a deputation in March 2016 at the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee calling for a scheme.

The council proposed a scheme which aimed to address double parking, parking on pavements and on double yellow lines. The council wanted to improve:

  • safety for pedestrians
  • traffic flow
  • access for emergency vehicles

Based on feedback from residents and businesses, it was decided to widen the neighboring zone F so that it encompassed the affected streets.

On 27 June 2017 the Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee approved the proposed amendment to the zone F parking scheme.

The addition to zone F, aka the 'Zone F extension', would operate in line with existing restrictions, i.e. Monday–Sunday: 9am–8pm.

The scheme would include bays for use by residents and their visitors, businesses and services.

The committee report has been archived on the Council and democracy section of our website.
