Local history

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery offers two local history galleries: Exploring Brighton and Images of Brighton draw a fascinating picture of the city from its early days to the present, featuring fashionable society and Regency architecture, the piers and the beach. They show Brighton & Hove as a place not only to visit, but a city in which to live and work and above all enjoy.

The Keep holds an extensive range of material for the study of Brighton & Hove's history and culture.

2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War (WW1). For this we are working closely with a wide range of local organisations to develop a four year programme of events. Find out more about the events on the First World War page.
