Housing Renewal Policy

Following the government's reforms of Home Improvement Grants, Brighton & Hove City Council revised its system for helping owners maintain and improve their properties.

The strong message from central government was that the primary responsibility for maintaining private homes rests with owners, so the council developed a new policy setting out new ways to help. These included providing improved information across the city and ensuring that financial assistance is particularly targeted to help vulnerable people continue to live safely in their homes.

Following consultation with a range of interested organisations, a revised Housing Renewal Policy [PDF 461KB] has been adopted by the council. The revised policy came into effect on 1 May 2006 and was amended in 2008.
