Other support to quit smoking

E-cigarettes

E-cigarettes are currently the most popular quit-smoking aid in the UK. They are a safer alternative to smoking, 95% safer in fact, because you don’t breathe in any tar or carbon monoxide.

Research has shown that two out of three people who use e-cigarettes, in combination with a stop smoking service, quit smoking successfully.

Public Health England recommends if you are a smoker, the best thing you can do is stop smoking now and e-cigarettes can help. It is not recommended that people carry on smoking alongside using e-cigarettes (vaping) except as part of a plan to stop smoking.

Smokers who don’t want to quit smoking should consider making a complete switch to vaping for their health.

E-cigarettes are currently not medicinally licensed. When they are licensed, GPs and stop smoking services will be able to prescribe them alongside other licensed stop smoking medicines.
