Brighton & Hove City Council's Environmental Management System (EMS) covers the Brighton Centre, the Hove Centre, Hove Town Hall and all outdoor events on council land.

An EMS is a structured framework for managing an organisation's environmental impacts. Our EMS is called the Sustainable Events Programme and it was the first in the country to be certified to both the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001 and the British Standard for Sustainable Events.

The Sustainable Events Programme supports event organisers identify and manage the effects of their event on the environment, on society and on the economy. In August 2013 we achieved certification to the new International Sustainable Events Standard ISO 20121 that played a positive sustainability legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
