Voting and elections

A UK Parliamentary General Election will take place on Thursday 8 June 2017.

Our next scheduled local elections for councillors are due to take place in May 2019.

Our neighbours in East and West Sussex have County Elections on Thursday 4 May 2017. As a unitary authority, Brighton & Hove does not participate in County Elections. 

Registering to vote

You need to register by 22 May to vote in the UK Parliamentary General Election on 8 June. You don’t need to register again if you’re already registered at your current address. British citizens, qualifying Commonwealth citizens or citizens of the Republic of Ireland are eligible to vote in UK Parliamentary General Elections.

Election information

Please make sure you plan ahead for voting in case you need a postal vote or proxy if you are on holiday, working away or have difficulty accessing the polling station. If you'd like to register for a postal vote for the UK Parliamentary General Election on 8 June, please apply as soon as possible.

Polling Stations will be open from 7am to 10pm
