Key dates in the admissions process

Please select the type of school your child will be attending to get to the relevant timetable.

Infant, Junior and Primary School Applications

For children born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 (or between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 in the case of Junior schools).

September 2016 - Application process begins

Application process for starting in Reception or Year 3 in a Junior School* begins.  Opportunity for parents/carers to visit individual schools.  Prospectuses available from schools.

15 January 2017 - Closing date for applications

Closing date for completed online applications or paper forms to be received by the School Admissions Team.  We strongly recommend that you do not delay your application to the last minute in case of technical problems.

  • If you choose to apply on a paper form it is your responsibility to ensure that the form arrives at its destination on time.

10 March 2017 - Late with good reason deadline

Applications received late with good reason up to this date will be considered as on time.

  • You must provide independent supporting evidence of the good reason or your application will be treated as late.

February/March/April 2017 - Making decisions

Applications analysed.

18 April 2017 - 'National Offer Day'

Parents that applied online will be notified by email of the outcome of their application.
If you completed a paper application form, letters will be sent by 1st class post to parents notifying them of the outcome of their application.  No decisions will be issued by telephone.

April 2017

Waiting Lists established.

2 May 2017 - Closing date to accept or refuse

Closing date for parents/carers to either accept or refuse the school place offered.  If the parent/carer does not reply, the offer may be withdrawn.

June 2017 onwards - Appeals

Independent Appeal Panels meet to consider appeals from parents/carers who are unhappy with their school allocation.

September 2017 - Start school

Children start school full or part time.  If you wish, you can defer admission (see 'When should my child start school?')

Secondary School Applications

 For children born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006.

September 2016 - Application process begins

Application process for transfer to Year 7 begins.  Opportunity for parents/carers to vist individual schools.  Prospectuses are available from schools.

31 October 2016 - Closing date for applications

Closing date for completed online applications or paper forms to be received by the School Admissions Team or your child's current school.  We strongly recommend that you do not delay your application to the last minute in case of technical problems.

  • If you choose to apply on a paper form it is your responsibility to ensure that the form arrives at its destination on time.

22 January 2017 - Late with a good reason deadline

Applications received late with good reason up to this date, which we agree are late with good reason, will be considered as on time.

January/February 2017 - Making decisions

1 March 2017 - 'National Offer Day'

Parents that applied online will be notified by email during the afternoon of the outcome of their application.
If you completed a paper application form, letters will be sent by 1st class post to parents to notify them of the outcome of their application.

No decisions will be issued by telephone.

16 March 2017 - Parents/carers must confirm place offered

Closing date for parents/carers to either accept or refuse the school place offered. If the parent/carer does not reply, the offer may be withdrawn.

April onwards - Appeals

Independent Appeals Panels meet to consider appeals from parents/carers who are unhappy with their school allocation.

April onwards - Reallocation

Places offered from the Reallocation Pools as they become available.

September 2017 - Start of school

Children start their new schools.
