Involving you and your child in the Local offer

The Local Offer is the name for all of the support and services provided to children and young people with special educational needs and/or a disability, and their families.

To build better Local Offer services for you and other families in Brighton & Hove, we first need to understand more about what you need. That’s why we listen to parents, carers and young people to get their views and ideas at every opportunity. Read more about how we develop the Local Offer together with parent carers and young people.

Working with parents and carers

We work with Amaze and the local parent carer forum, the Parent Carers' Council (PaCC), to get feedback about what we can do to improve services and support for children and young people with SEND and their families.

Working with young people

Young people have their own opinions and we engage with them directly through young people's groups or via youth participation workers, schools and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs). If a young person needs support to express their views, we may be able to arrange help, such as an advocate who could be a family member or a professional.

The AHA! Group

The AHA! Group was formed in 2009 to help us find out what young disabled people think about growing up in Brighton & Hove and what they would like to see happen to make things better. The young people meet four times a term and we discuss issues that are facing them. After the meetings the opinions of young people get recorded in Key Actions and Important Messages which get taken to the Strategic Disability Partnership Board. You can contact the AHA Group via the Participation Team on (01273) 295510 or email Kerry.Bridge@brighton-hove.gov.uk

How to tell us what you think

You can contact any of the groups we mention above to feedback on issues that matter to you and you can take part in consultations about specific SEND services via the council's website as they arise. Or you can tell us what you think easily via this website:
