These centres offer services for families with children under 5 years in Central Brighton, Tarner, Hanover, Elm Grove and Kemp Town area.

The Sure Start Children's Centre teams, based at Tarner CC and City View CC, are made up of health visitors, early years visitors, parenting practitioners, parent involvement workers and group support workers. The teams work with families, individuals and groups, in the home and in the centres.

Group activities

Group activities are held in the children's centres. Some of these are drop-in sessions and others are by appointment or referral. Child Health Clinics

Health Visitors hold drop-in child health clinics for children under 5.

  • Monday   10.00 - 11.45 at Fairlight CC - due to staff shortages the clinic at Fairlight is cancelled at present
  • Tuesday   9.30 - 11.00 at City View CC, Brighton General Hospital
  • Weds       1.15 - 3.00 at Cornerstone Community Centre, Church Road
  • Thurs        10.00 - 11.45 at Tarner CC


The Children's Centre works in partnership with Tarnerland Nursery which is based close to the centre in St. Johns Place, Brighton, BN2 0GR, tel: 01273 294199. admin@tarnerland.brighton-hove.sch.uk. They offer full day care for children aged 0-5.

Volunteers, training and centre news

The centre has an Advisory Group that supports and guides the services offered. Local parents are involved in these meetings; please contact the Service Support Manager or Parent Involvement Worker for details.
