Our story
As part of our continuous improvement approach within Children's Services we have developed the Social Work: Our Story [MS Word 267kb] document. This provides a snap shot of our current social work activities and can be used by council staff and partners to support the development and strengthening of social work in the city.
Our Story gets updated regularly so please visit this page again to get an up to date version.

The Brighton & Hove Pledge to children in care
The Brighton & Hove Pledge to our children in care and those preparing to leave care has been written with our Children in Care Council. The format of the two age-related pledges has been designed by a young person who has left care.
- A set of promises for all children and young people in care up to 16 years old.
The 16+ and Leaving Care Local Offer for all 16 to 25 year old young people who are in or have left care is currently being updated. Find more information on the Care Leavers Journey app. Download the app from Google Play, or search Journey Brighton in your app store.
The Pledge sets out the commitment of councillors and staff to enable children in care to achieve to the best of their ability and comparable to their peer group. We want all of our children to live full, rewarding and active lives and become confident individuals, responsible citizens and contributors.
Education and training for Care Leavers
For ‘Post-21 ET Support’ - Some young people who have left care experience barriers which make a return to education or training difficult. We aim to provide support to help overcome these difficulties so where possible young people can return to education or training up to the age of 25. Please see attached information leaflet.
Support and entitlements fact sheet
‘Care Leaver Factsheet’ – It’s important that young people leaving care know about the support and entitlements they can expect from the age of 16 upwards. This factsheet explains the detail.
