A license or registration is required to hold or sell fireworks on any premises under the Manufacture and Storage of Explosives Regulations 2005. The law says that any businesses that stock explosives have to register with the Local Authority.
Register by contacting the Trading Standards business advice line on (01273) 292523 or by downloading and completing the form on the fireworks registration application form page and returning it to us. We will inspect premises (often alongside the local fire service) to ensure that safety conditions are met before issuing the licenses.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: It is anticipated the Manufacture and Storage of Explosives Regulations 2005 will be replaced with new legislation from 1st October 2014. Whilst the fee is expected to remain comparable to the current charge of £52, a new licensing system will be introduced and applicants may need to make alterations to their storage arrangements and/or provide additional information before an approval to store explosives is granted under the new legislation. Your current Registration is valid until 31 August 2014 and if your renewal is processed before that date it will be issued under the current legislation with the same requirements that have been in place since 2005. (You will then automatically receive an invitation to apply under the new Regulations when your Registration next expires in 2015).
We would ask you to please complete your renewal and return it to us at your earliest convenience, but please ensure your application for renewal and payment is received by us on or before Monday 22nd September 2014. After this date there may be a delay in our normal turnaround times and your renewal may become subject to the new legislation when additional information or storage alterations may be required.
