The Brighton & Hove City Employment and Skills Plan
The overall objective of the City Employment and Skills Plan 2011-2014 (CESP) is to support the creation of at least 6,000 new jobs by 2014 in Brighton & Hove. Evidence suggests that just creating jobs will not achieve this goal. The city needs to not only set the conditions for job creation but also do more to equip local residents to compete for work within the city’s labour market. To this end, the plan has set out three priorities:
- Priority 1: Promote the city’s employment and skills needs to internal and external partners and agencies
- Priority 2: Support the creation of at least 6,000 new jobs by 2014
- Priority 3: Ensure that local residents are equipped to compete for jobs in the city’s labour market
The City Employment & Skills Steering Group (CESSG) is central to the success of the plan by influencing actions so that the group maximises the employment and skills benefits to the city. The group consists of the key stakeholders involved with employment and skills related activity in Brighton & Hove and meets on a quarterly basis.
