Healthy Choice scheme

Healthy Choice is a joint initiative between Brighton & Hove City Council and the Food Partnership and aims to improve the quality of meals and snacks eaten outside the home. Food businesses can access free nutrition advice, information and help to review menus. We support outlets to prepare, cook and serve food in a healthier way and those that demonstrate best practice can apply for a Healthy Choice Award.

Who can take part?

The Healthy Choice scheme is open to all food businesses registered in Brighton & Hove with a Food Hygiene Rating Score of 3 or above.

Cafes, restaurants and takeaways

If you own or manage a business like as a café, restaurant, takeaway, pub, or canteen, you can use these pages to look at the support and awards available.

We encourage the use of healthier cooking methods and ingredients and opportunities for customers to make healthier choices if they wish.

Visit the Information for Businesses page for the benefits of joining the scheme and details of how to sign up.

Early years, breakfast clubs and residential care settings

Outlets catering in early years or residential care settings can visit the Food Partnership website for information about support and awards available. Click on the relevant link below for details of how to apply:

The Healthy Choice Award in these settings recognises those that serve varied, nutritious and age appropriate menus. If you want to go the extra mile, further recognition is provided through the Healthy Choice Award Gold - a supplementary stage for those working towards both nutritional and sustainability standards.
